CALAPAN CITY, ORIENTAL MINDORO — Executives from Intership Crew Philippines conducted a two-day institutional visit to the Southwestern College of Maritime, Business and Technology Inc. (SCMBT) on August 26–27, 2026. The visit focused on inspecting campus facilities and reviewing academic programs to open international career pathways for Onboard Training Maritime and Hospitality students.

To strengthen awareness of the Spanish language and foster Filipino-Hispanic cultural exchange, Southwestern College of Maritime, Business and Technology Inc. spearheaded the 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗼 𝗛𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗼-𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗼 bringing together educators, government representatives, students, and partner organizations held at the Gabaldon Building.

Thirty top-performing incoming fourth-year students from the Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation (BSMT) and Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering (BSMarE) programs participated in an employment readiness seminar and mock interview conducted by FLIGNO in preparation for their upcoming Onboard Training (OBT).

United in faith and gratitude, a Thanksgiving Mass was offered after the motorcade to honor the institution’s journey, blessings, and shared commitment to service as part of the celebration of its 23rd Founding Anniversary.

23rd FOUNDING ANNIVERSARY I Southwestern College of Maritime, Business, and Technology, Inc. officially marked its 23rd Founding Anniversary with a vibrant motorcade participated in by the top management, teaching and non-teaching staffs, and students, together with the SCMBT mascot and marching band.

𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗦 I In preparation for the upcoming 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗔𝗽𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁 (𝗡𝗔𝗠𝗠𝗔𝗧), the institution conducted a comprehensive review session for Grade 12 students, focusing on essential areas such as verbal and symbolic analogy, reasoning, grammar fundamentals, and mathematics.

Abante participated in the MIMAROPA Basic Labor Market Information (LMI) Training held on October 10, 2025. The event, organized by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), focused on enhancing participants’ understanding of Labor Market Information, Employment Forecasting, Digital Transformation, and Green Jobs.

In celebration of World Teacher’s Day, the Supreme Student Council (SSC) proudly led a day filled with fun, music, and appreciation for our beloved teachers.

𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗘 𝗪𝗘𝗘𝗞 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 I With the theme “𝙊𝙪𝙧 𝙊𝙘𝙚𝙖𝙣, 𝙊𝙪𝙧 𝙊𝙗𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣, 𝙊𝙪𝙧 𝙊𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮,” Southwestern College of Maritime, Business, and Technology marked this year’s Maritime Week through a series of engaging activities, including a maritime obstacle course that showcased the strength, discipline, and teamwork of its students held at SCMBT Annex Covered Court.

As part of the 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, Southwesternians took the spotlight in the 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗚𝗼𝘁 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 and 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗤𝘂𝗶𝘇 𝗕𝗲𝗲, where they displayed their diverse talent, skills and passion for the maritime field.

Highlighting the vital role of maritime professionals in safeguarding the oceans, maritime students participated in a seminar conducted by the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) held at SCMBT Annex Covered Court, September 24.

The 3-day conference ended with all attendees participating in the “Collective Commitment Ceremony” as each one take turns in signing in the enlarged commitment paper. It was a very worthwhile activity that challenged all the participants to take further action in writing research with global standards and to partake with the sharing of best practices that are worth emulating.

In celebration of the birthday of Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the government launched the initiative “Handog ng Pangulo: Serbisyong Sapat para sa Lahat,” which aimed to bring various public services closer to the people. Among the participating agencies in this nationwide initiative was the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), through its Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education (UniFAST).

In line with its commitment to transparency and accountability, Southwestern College of Maritime, Business and Technology Inc. recently underwent an onsite orientation and liquidation activity conducted by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) for the grants under the Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education (UniFAST) programs, namely the Tulong Dunong Program (TDP) and the Tertiary Education Subsidy (TES).

𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 I Prior to the Commencement Exercises and Ringhop Ceremony, completers and candidates for graduation from the Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation (BSMT) and Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering (BSMarE) programs attended the Baccalaureate Mass held at Sto. Niño Cathedral, June 17.

09-11 June 2025, MARINA Regional Office IV led by Engr. Rizal J. Victoria, through its Seafarers Documentation Section, successfully conducted a comprehensive SID/SRB Mobile Processing event in Southwestern College of Maritime Business and Technology Inc. (SCMBTI), Calapan, Oriental Mindoro, benefiting a total of 99 participants. This mobile processing initiative aimed to streamline and expedite the processing of maritime-related documents for the region's aspiring maritime professionals.

As part of their academic and industry preparation requirements, incoming 3rd year students from the Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation (BSMT), Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering (BSMarE), Bachelor of Science in Hotel Management (BSHM), Diploma Courses, and Ship Catering programs have successfully completed their Basic Training held at Cavite from June 8-13.

To equip them with the essential skills and competencies for their onboard training, the second batch of third-year students from the Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering (BSMarE) and Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation (BSMT) programs is currently undergoing an intensive 8-day package training at Pentagon Maritime Services Corporation in Manila, from May 14 to May 21.

As part of their preparation for Onboard Training (OBT), third-year students from the Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering (BSMarE) and Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation (BSMT) programs are currently undergoing an intensive 8-day package training at Pentagon Maritime Services Corporation, Manila.

In a continued effort to combat the rising threat of illegal drug use among the youth, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Calapan City, conducted a comprehensive Drug Prevention Symposium among first year college students of Southwestern College of Maritime, Business and Technology Inc. (SCMBT), held at the SCMBT Covered Court, April 26.

A group of 97 college students from Southwestern College of Maritime Business and Technology took part in an immersive vessel familiarization tour aboard BRP Malabrigo (MRRV-4402) at the Port of Calapan, Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro, March 1.

In a commitment to enhance research culture and practices, faculty members and key officials from Southwestern College of Maritime, Business and Technology attended the Research Colloquium Level-Up 8 of the Divine Word College of Calapan held at Calapan City Convention Center last October 19.

The CHED-MARINA Inspection and Evaluation Team started the third day of audit with a comprehensive inspection of the Engine Watchkeeping laboratory, focusing on ship engines and various equipment. This thorough check ensures that the institution adheres to the high standards required for maritime education.

In an effort to address the rising cases of HIV in the community, an initiative from Health and Welfare Council for Students (HAWCS) led by their adviser, Maám Maricel Oberio hosted an informative seminar on HIV and AIDS Awareness held at Annex Covered Court, October 12.

To honor the tireless efforts and significant contributions of the teachers, the Supreme Student Council (SSC) organized a special event at Annex Court last October 2.

In celebration of the 25th National Maritime Week and the 29th National Seafarers Day, the Philippine Port Authority hosted Zumba for a Cause event on September 29. Organized by the Philippine Coast Guardians of CCS Oriental Mindoro in partnership with various public departments, the event aimed to raise funds for a gift-giving and feeding program for coastal residents in the station's area of responsibility.

Southwestern College of Maritime, Business, and Technology STEM students participated in a coastal cleanup and mangrove planting drive at Brgy. Parang, Calapan City, alongside the coast guards and their science teacher, Mr. Bern E. Alvis last September 28.

With the aim to increase awareness of the country’s vast maritime domains and its potential among Filipinos, the Philippine Ports Authority-PMO Mindoro hold community focused activities in celebration of the Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANA Mo) last September.

As part of the celebration of the National Maritime Week, the Southwestern College of Maritime Business and Technology, as a response to the invitation of the National Seafarer’s Day Committee led by Stella Maris Philippines, and Philippine Coast Guard, conducted several activities from September 16 -27, 2024.

In a remarkable display of academic excellence, Southwestern College of Maritime, Business and Technology secured a Top 5 ranking among different Maritime Higher Education Institutions Nationwide in the prestigious Maritime Schools Assessment Program (MSAP-2024) examination.

Showcasing exceptional craftsmanship and skills, two students from Southwestern College of Maritime, Business, and Technology have secured medals in the Philippine National Skills Competition held at the World Trade Center, August 21-25.

𝐒𝐂𝐌𝐁𝐓 took part on today’s celebration of 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐀𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭 𝐃𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐭 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 (𝐈𝐃𝐀𝐃𝐀𝐈𝐓) with the theme “𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫: 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.”

We were honored to host 𝗧𝗘𝗦𝗗𝗔 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝘂𝘁𝘆 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗩𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗹 𝗩𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗲𝘃𝗮 and esteemed officials on Saturday, 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 09, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰, at SCMBT. Thanks to the commendation from TESDA Provincial Director Ben-Hur Baniqued, our institution was chosen as a premier TVI exemplifying state-of-the-art facilities for TESDA Programs.

March 9, 2024, OMNHS Calapan hosted a significant event as Tesda Mimaropa, in collaboration with industry partners, formalized a Memorandum of Agreement. Embracing its role in the Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fair, the TESDA not only offered a diverse range of beverages and pastries but, more notably, provided essential examination services for individuals aspiring to join Tesda programs.

With the theme “𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐇𝐲𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐱 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐞𝐝𝐚𝐠𝐨𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐬” the faculty of Southwestern College of Maritime, Business and Technology conducted five days In-Service Training as preparation for the opening of second semester for the school year 2023-2024. It helps teachers to acquire new understanding and instructional skills to develop their effectiveness in the classroom.

Southwestern College of Maritime Business and Technology Inc. hosted the CCAA season 18 with a theme of "PROPELING TOWARDS GLOBALLY COMPETITIVE ATHLETES" at Sentrong Pangkabataan, Singko, Calapan City.

On October 21, 2023, a Bloodletting Activity was conducted at Southwestern College of Maritime Business and Technology Inc., Quezon Drive, Calero, Calapan City. 28 students participate in the bloodletting activity that was conducted by Oriental Mindoro Blood Council.
