As part of their preparation for Onboard Training (OBT), third-year students from the Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering (BSMarE) and Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation (BSMT) programs are currently undergoing an intensive 8-day package training at Pentagon Maritime Services Corporation, Manila.
The training program covers four essential courses required for seafarers: Crowd Crisis Management (CCM), Seafarers with Designated Security Duties (SDSD), Ratings Forming Part of a Navigational Watch (RFPNW), and Ratings Forming Part of an Engineering Watch (RFPEW). These courses are designed to ensure that students acquire the necessary competencies and certifications for safe and effective shipboard operations.
Facilitated by 2/M John Rhome Mamangon, OBT Supervisor, and 2/M Rummel Tizon, Marine Transportation Assessor, the program integrates both classroom instruction and practical assessments that simulate real-life scenarios at sea—providing students with hands-on experience and application of their training.
This ongoing initiative reflects the institution’s commitment to producing competent, safety-conscious, and industry-ready maritime professionals. As the students continue through the program, they gain the essential skills, and preparedness needed to meet the challenges of life at sea.
