The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) recently conducted the Orientation and Awarding of the Student Financial Assistance Programs (StuFAPS) Grant held at Southwestern College of Maritime, Business and Technology Inc., March 13.
The event aimed to provide scholars with an in-depth understanding of the various scholarship programs available to them, along with the formal awarding of their grants.
Dr. Paul Arvin Fernandez, Chief Operating Officer of SCMBT, welcomed attendees, including CHED MIMAROPA Regional Director Dr. Edna Imelda F. Legazpi and student grantees. Dir. Legazpi, Director IV of CHED MIMAROPA, delivered also an inspiring message. C/E Erdie P. Taganguin, SCMBT’s College of Maritime Education was also present at the event.
One of the key highlights of the event was the presentation and distribution of the Notice of Awards to the scholars. This formal recognition affirmed the students' eligibility and enrollment in CHED's scholarship programs, offering them much-needed financial support to pursue their academic aspirations.
An open forum was also held, allowing student grantees to ask questions and clarify concerns regarding their scholarships. This interactive session provided an avenue for students to gain a clearer understanding of the terms and benefits of their respective scholarship grants.
As a token of appreciation, Dr. Fernandez presented a plaque and token to Dir. Legazpi in recognition of her support and dedication to advancing student financial assistance initiatives.
In the afternoon, the StuFAPS Coordinators and Focal Persons attended a specialized orientation focused on various updates concerning StuFAPs. Topics discussed included the CHED Scholarship Program (CSP), ACEP-GIAHEP, and COSCHO. The session also featured another open forum, allowing coordinators and focal persons from different institutions to raise concerns and discuss strategies for better implementation of the scholarship programs in their respective schools.
The event concluded on a productive note, reinforcing CHED’s commitment to providing accessible and well-managed student financial assistance. The discussions and exchanges during the orientation will undoubtedly contribute to the improved implementation and administration of CHED’s scholarship programs, benefiting more students in the years to come.
