π‘ππͺπ¦ I SCMBT College Students Explore BRP Malabrigo in Vessel Familiarization Tour
A group of 97 college students from Southwestern College of Maritime Business and Technology took part in an immersive vessel familiarization tour aboard BRP Malabrigo (MRRV-4402) at the Port of Calapan, Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro, March 1.
The tour, organized by the Coast Guard District Southern Tagalog (CGDSTL) in celebration of its 42nd anniversary, provided students with a unique opportunity to explore the vesselβs advanced equipment and gain firsthand knowledge of maritime safety, security, and law enforcement operations.
Students eagerly navigated through different sections of the vessel, observing its technical features and interacting with maritime professionals to better understand real-world applications of their studies. The experience deepened their appreciation for the complexities of maritime operations and the critical role of the Philippine Coast Guard in ensuring safety at sea.
Accompanying the students were key faculty members, including Program Chair of the Department of Marine Transportation Captain Rey Mark OpeΓ±a, OBT Supervisor 2nd Officer John Rhome Mamangun, SCC Adviser Major Johnny Magluyan, and SCC Co-Adviser Engr. Glenn Anthony Rayos.
The event underscored the importance of experiential learning in shaping future maritime professionals, equipping them with practical knowledge and exposure essential for their careers in the maritime industry.
