Southwestern College of Maritime, Business and Technology Inc. (SCMBT) recently met with representatives of Sphiro Shipping Company to discuss potential collaborations aimed at advancing maritime education, technical-vocational training, and industry development.
Present during the meeting were Atty. Armando S. Fernandez, President and CEO; Dr. Marivic D. Fernandez, Vice President and Registrar; 2M John Rhome E.J. Mamangon, Associate Dean and OBT Supervisor; together with Sir Kevin Ray M. Notarte, DPA, and Ma’am Keith Del Mundo, Crewing Assistant, representing Sphiro Shipping Company.
Discussions focused on the Diploma in Ship Maintenance and Repair (DSMR) Program, TESDA-accredited training initiatives, ship familiarization activities, and technical-vocational immersion opportunities that will provide students with practical industry exposure, particularly in support of Sphiro Shipping Company's shipyard operations in Paluan, Oriental Mindoro.
The meeting also highlighted future development plans for the maritime industry and explored possible consultations for the future offering of a Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture program at SCMBT.
Both parties expressed their commitment to continuing discussions toward a strong and sustainable partnership that will benefit students, the maritime industry, and the community.
