Norben Abog Sagun Jr., our Foreign Language (Spanish) Instructor, presented at the IV Congreso de Español como Lengua Extranjera en Asia-Pacífico (CELEAP) held on 18-20 September 2026 at the University Sains Malaysia (USM) in Penang, Malaysia.
Mr. Sagun, in his presentation entitled «Puentes hacia el español: La lengua filipina y la historia de Filipinas en la enseñanza de ELE en Filipinas», showcased how pedagogical translanguaging and culturally relevant pedagogy (CRP) are applied in his Spanish classes to turn students’ existing knowledge of Filipino and English and Philippine culture and history into a bridge towards Spanish language learning and appreciation.
Together with him, comprising the delegation from the Philippines, are Spanish language educators and researchers from Instituto Cervantes de Manila, Academia Filipina de la Lengua Filipina, UPD Department of European Languages | Quezon City), Ateneo Modern Languages Department, and Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan.
