Southwestern College of Maritime, Business and Technology Inc. (SCMBT) warmly welcomed Capt. James Nikko R. Hosana as the commencement speaker for the institutionās 5th Commencement Exercises.
Prior to the graduation ceremony, Capt. Hosana visited the different campuses of SCMBT where he was given a tour of the institutionās academic facilities, maritime laboratories, and training equipment. The administration proudly showcased the schoolās commitment to excellence in maritime education and student development.
A major highlight of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between SCMBT, SEAker, and Inter-world Shipping Corporation (ISC), signifying a strengthened partnership geared toward innovation, maritime training, and industry collaboration.
The MOA signing was spearheaded by Atty. Armando S. Fernandez, President/CEO of SCMBT; Dr. Marivic D. Fernandez, Vice President/Registrar; and Capt. Rey Mark D. OpeƱa, OIC-Dean of College of Maritime Education, together with Capt. Hosana.
Dubbed as a partnership where āA Legacy of Excellence Meets Digital Innovation,ā the collaboration aims to integrate advanced digital solutions and strengthen opportunities for maritime students and graduates.
Among the key initiatives under the partnership are real-time monitoring of cadets during their Onboard Training (OBT), the implementation of a digital alumni tracer system, and the conduct of data-driven research through alumni feedback and insights to continuously improve the institutionās academic programs and services.
As the pioneer of maritime programs in the province and the first institution to achieve ISO certification, SCMBT continues to uphold its commitment to producing globally competitive maritime professionals while adapting to the evolving needs of the maritime industry.
