As part of their preparation for the upcoming onboard training, third-year students taking Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation (BSMT) and Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering (BSMarE) at Southwestern College of Maritime, Business and Technology Inc. are currently participating in a Package Training conducted at Pentagon Maritime Training Center.
The participants, composed of CCI candidates, are undergoing a series of mandatory maritime training courses designed to enhance their competence, discipline, and readiness before boarding vessels for their practical shipboard experience.
Included in the training package are Ratings Forming Part of Navigational Watch (RFNW), Ratings Forming Part of Engineering Watch (RFEW), Crowd and Crisis Management (CCM), Ship Security Awareness Training and Seafarers with Designated Security Duties (SAT/SDSD), and Updating Course on Basic Training – Personal Safety and Social Responsibility (UBT-PSSR).
These trainings aim to equip future seafarers with the necessary knowledge and practical skills in watchkeeping, shipboard safety, security awareness, crisis management, and professional responsibility at sea. The program also serves as an essential step in preparing students for the demands and realities of maritime operations onboard international vessels.
The training activities are being facilitated by 2M John Rhome E.J. Mamangon together with Rummel Tizon, Program Chair of BSMT.
Through this initiative, the institution reaffirms its commitment to producing competent, globally competitive, and safety-oriented maritime professionals ready to meet the standards of the international shipping industry.
