In an empowering effort to promote health literacy and foster a compassionate campus culture, Southwestern College of Maritime Business and Technology (SCMBT) Senior High School hosted an HIV Awareness Seminar, September 23.
The event brought students together for an impactful session dedicated to dispelling common misconceptions, sharing essential prevention strategies, and emphasizing how education serves as the strongest shield against discrimination and stigma.
𝗠𝗿. 𝗟𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗖𝘂𝘆𝗮, Department of Health (DOH) HIV Counselor and SHIP Peer Navigator and Ms. Jassy Adora, Case Finder, led the core educational segments.
Throughout the session, students engaged in age-appropriate discussions regarding HIV/AIDS Transmission and Prevention, Responsible Health Practices and Barrier Protection Methods.
As part of the practical outreach component of the campaign, free male condoms were distributed to participants. Students were also introduced to Purple Rain, a dedicated HIV care and treatment clinic serving the province of Oriental Mindoro, providing attendees with clear, local resources for confidential testing and care.
