To my fellow Southwesternians, It’s 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗦𝗜𝗕𝗟𝗘 to go onboard International vessels even if you don’t have a backer. I as an example, do not have any backer and I didn’t spend a single penny just to get into an international company yet here I am now starting my journey onboard a Worldwide trade.
All you need is 𝗙𝗔𝗜𝗧𝗛, 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪𝗟𝗘𝗗𝗚𝗘, 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗦𝗞𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗦. Always pay attention to our highly qualified instructors at SCMBT, their advice, lessons, and the values they share may not seem important at the time, but you’ll realize how vital they are when you step into the real world. These teachings will guide you not only during the application process but also as you climb the ranks toward becoming future Captains and Chief Engineers.
Applying to an international company was far from easy-especially for someone like me who didn’t have any connections or backers to rely on. Along the way, I faced a lot of self-doubt and rejections. I was pressured seeing my batch-mates already starting their careers locally, while I was still trying to find an international opportunity in Manila. With just my faith, knowledge, skills, and values I’ve learned from my mentors in the school, I continue to pave my own path with enthusiasm and perseverance and I’m grateful that all the hard work eventually paid off.
Coming from a Maritime school that is still starting and making it’s name amongst all MHEI’s Nationwide, I must say that competing with well-known schools during my application is intimidating at first. But I never let that shake my confidence. I believed that if others could do it, then I could too. We have studied the same program and we have equally great instructors back at our school that prepared us for this moment. With just a positive mindset paired with competence and proficiency I performed and excelled, and that’s what landed me in this amazing opportunity to go onboard International Fleet.
Truly an amazing and inspiring journey of Cadet Peralta. He vehemently proves that with just the right amount of determination, academic preparation and resiliency no greater heights is beyond reach.
