In a continued effort to maintain rigorous educational and operational standards across the country's maritime sector, a formal inspection was conducted for Southwestern College of Maritime, Business and Technology Inc. pursuant to Memorandum Circular No. SC 2021-08.
The comprehensive evaluation focused on verifying the institution's full compliance with the regulatory framework governing the accreditation of entities offering maritime courses. The inspection team carried out an in-depth audit covering key operational areas, including administrative offices, instructional classrooms, training equipment, physical facilities, and administrative documentation.
The assessment was headed by Lead Auditor Ms. Wilma M. Dela Cruz, alongside Ms. Rina L. Bayoca, who evaluated the institution's capability to deliver quality maritime training in line with national and international standards.
"Ensuring that training institutes meet prescribed physical and administrative benchmarks is essential to safeguarding the quality of Philippine maritime education," noted the inspection team during the review process.
Memorandum Circular No. SC 2021-08 establishes the revised rules and regulations for the accreditation of Maritime Training Institutes (MTIs), requiring strict adherence to facility adequacy, equipment calibration, instructor qualification records, and operational management systems before official recognition is granted or renewed.
Building on a constructive site visit, the upcoming audit report will highlight Southwestern College of Maritime, Business and Technology Inc.’s readiness and qualifications for formal accreditation.
