SCMBT Navigators survived a late-game scare from the DWCC Halcons, 77–75, in the 21st Calapan City Athletic Association (CCAA) Men’s Basketball Tournament held at Camilmil Gymnasium, September 25.
Navigators struggled to pull away in the opening half as the Halcons kept the game within reach throughout the first and second quarters. Despite the tight contest, Navigators remained composed and continued to battle for every possession.
SCMBT finally gained momentum in the latter part of the third quarter, where they managed to take the lead and carry the advantage into the final frame.
The fourth quarter turned into a heated back-and-forth battle as Halcons mounted a late comeback attempt. The Halcons continued to trim the Navigators’ lead, eventually reducing it to just one point in the final minute.
With DWCC in possession and threatening to take the lead, the Navigators held their ground defensively. A crucial foul sent Jacob Andrei Pineda to the free-throw line, where he calmly converted one of his attempts to restore a two-point advantage, 77–75.
Halcons had another opportunity to force a tie or take the lead, but their final shot failed to fall, allowing the Navigators to preserve the narrow victory.
The hard-fought win kept the Navigators unbeaten at 4–0, maintaining their perfect record in the 21st CCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.
