𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐢𝐞𝐬: 𝐒𝐂𝐌𝐁𝐓 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐲 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐆𝐂𝐄𝐃 𝐎𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧
Faculty members and Key officials of Southwestern College of Maritime, Business and Technology participated in the Philippine Higher Education Internationalization and Global Citizenship Education (GCED) orientation organized by Higher Institutions of Oriental Mindoro in collaboration with CHED MiMaRoPa, October 3-4.
The first day, held at Mindoro State University Main Campus, commenced with a warm welcome from Engr. Dr. Jerrel S. Reyes, Ph.D., Chief of the Presidential Management Staff for External Linkages and International Affairs (ELIA) through introducing participating state universities and colleges among the province.
Dr. Jimmy G. Catanes, Ph.D., CESE, Director IV of CHED MIMAROPA, led the main discussions on internationalization and GCED. This session was centered around the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI), which evaluates universities based on their innovative practices and contributions to society. Participants engaged in insightful discussions, sharing their perspectives on how to enhance the internationalization of their institutions and align with global educational standards.
The second day of the orientation featured a workshop focused on school programs that positively impact communities. A highlight was Southwestern College of Maritime Business and Technology's scholarship initiative, in partnership with shipping companies, which offers students free tuition and onboard training. 𝗦𝗶𝗿 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻 𝗥𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗼𝗻, 𝗢𝗕𝗧 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗿, presented this program, with contributions from colleagues 𝗖/𝗘 𝗘𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗲 𝗣. 𝗧𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗻, 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗦𝗶𝗿 𝗭𝗮𝗹𝗱𝘆 𝗔𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗹, 𝗢𝗜𝗖-𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗹, 𝗠𝘀. 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗹𝘆𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗻, 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗠𝗿𝘀. 𝗝𝘂𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗠𝗮𝗲 𝗥. 𝗭𝗮𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗮, 𝗦𝗕𝗢 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝘀. 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗝𝗼𝘆 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘀. Present also was the school's Chief Operating Officer, 𝗗𝗿. 𝗣𝗮𝘂𝗹 𝗔𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗻 𝗗. 𝗙𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝘇.
Their participation emphasized the commitment of the institution in creating valuable educational opportunities that support both students and the maritime industry. Moreover, it underscored the commitment of local institutions to enhance global engagement and community development through innovative educational strategies.
