Creating more opportunities for maritime students and graduates, Southwestern College of Maritime, Business and Technology Inc. conducted a company visitation at Interworld Shipping Corporation to further discuss industry partnerships, onboard training opportunities, and advancements in cadet monitoring systems.
The visitation was attended by 2M Bryan P. Dela Luna, BSMT Assessor and 2M John Rhome E.J. Mamangon, Associate Dean/OBT Supervisor alongside Capt. James Nikko R. Hosana, to discuss new opportunities for students and graduates of the institution.
During the meeting, both parties discussed the continuous partnership between the school, ISC, and SEAker through the existing Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), which aims to open more opportunities for cadets and future seafarers. As ISC continues to expand its fleet through newly acquired vessels and principals, more training and employment opportunities are expected to become available for SCMBT maritime students and graduates.
The discussion also focused on the development, enhancement, and updates of the SEAker application, particularly in monitoring the documentary requirements of cadets undergoing onboard training. Among the key features highlighted were the monitoring of OTG (Onboard Training Guidelines), TRB (Training Record Book), and Daily Journal submissions, which are essential requirements for maritime students during their shipboard training.
The initiative, led by 2M Mamangon with the assistance of Ms. Maydelyn Ramos, aims to provide more efficient guidance, supervision, and monitoring of cadets throughout their onboard training. The enhanced system is also expected to support the institution’s compliance with the standards and requirements set by the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA).
